10 Things to Know Before Visiting the Faroe Islands

Mornings on Padar Island are some kind of magic! —
If you’ve been following along on stories, you’ll know I’ve arrived on a very different island in Asia, Taiwan, and am so excited to explore this ridiculously beautiful place.
So, have you been? Where did you love? Any favourite hikes? Any must visit spots?
I’m in need of all the tips so drop your pearls of wisdom below!
I mean, there are worse ways to end the day, right I mean, there are worse ways to end the day, right? Drinking in another blazing Port Barton sunset and I’m pretty sure this lucky paddler has the best seat in the house.

This time last week I had just touched back down in Asia, somewhere completely new for me that’s just a smidge north of these beautiful islands. Stories incoming tomorrow so stay tuned!
Travel doesn’t always have to be about the big e Travel doesn’t always have to be about the big experiences - conquering the highest peaks, getting the adrenaline pumping or ticking things off your bucket list. More and more I’m learning that most often it’s the quiet experiences that shape your perceptions of a place. The curious snippets of everyday scenes, the comings and goings, the in between fragments of life being lived. The man selling mangoes on the corner, the stolen silence before dawn breaks, the tuk tuk whizzing down a side street or the girl and her bucket collecting shellfish along the beach as the final light of day dwindles behind the palms.
Sunsets in Komodo National Park are something of a Sunsets in Komodo National Park are something of a spectacle. After a jam-packed day of diving, hiking, chasing waterfalls or simply getting better acquainted with the hostel hammock, it’s something of a ritual to clamber up the conical hills on the outskirts of Labuan Bajo to watch the show unfold. Hazy blues melt into candy floss pinks and impossible shades of burnt orange and fuchsia creep across the horizon. The landscapes shift into silhouette and are engulfed by darkness far too soon. Really, it’s the only way to end a sun-drenched, salty-haired day in this simply gorgeous pocket of Indonesia.
For the love of tea! — One of my favourite thing For the love of tea!
—
One of my favourite things is pottering about or curling up with a steaming hot cuppa. It’s one of life’s true simple pleasures, especially on the road, and something I can consume endlessly. So when I discovered that Malaysia had miles of the stuff carpeting it’s mountain hillsides, this spot naturally crept to the top of my list.
—
Though admittedly the Cameron Highlands didn’t quite win me over, these striking green fields of tea rolling towards a hazy mountain backdrop was an undeniably beautiful place to spend a morning lost in nature. And the tea? Well, I can confirm I left with more than one box of the stuff.
—
So fellow tea lovers, what’s your go to brew?
Dreamy afternoons in Port Barton. This sleepy fis Dreamy afternoons in Port Barton. This sleepy fishing village doesn’t make it into many people’s itineraries, but it quickly became one of my favourite places in the Philippines. Down a winding potholed road engulfed by scenes of tangled vines and spiky palms, you arrive to a tiny knot of dusty roads where ripe mangoes droop beside the road and the methodical lullaby of rolling waves is never far away. It’s a place of vast empty beaches, an endless trail of palm trees and jungle-clad hills that are ripe for exploration. People say Port Barton is what El Nido was a decade ago and it’s inevitable that change will come quickly to this beautiful pocket of Palawan, but for now, things here roll at an infinitely slower pace and that laidback village charm is still very much alive.
