For a country where tourism is still more or less in its infancy, Albania sure knows how to do hostels right.

Laid-back outdoor spaces, homey vibes, excellent free breakfasts and wonderful hospitality – it’s a perfect set of ingredients that will make you want to stay far longer than you ever planned.

Travelling Albania on a budget or looking to connect with other travellers? These are the absolute best hostels in Albania, tried and tested by me, or based on the gushing recommendations of fellow travellers and those online.

Albania’s first ever hostel, Tirana Backpackers, is well located between the bus station and Skanderbeg Square and has become a favourite hangout spot for travellers in Tirana. The artsy outdoor space, decent breakfast and affordable family dinners make it a great choice of hostel in Tirana.

Hostels In Himara
Himara Hostel

Himara Hostel in one word – chill!

Kick back in one of the many hammocks in the enormous fruit-tree laden garden or enjoy a sunset swim at the beach just a 5-minute walk away. This hostel also boasts spacious dorms, a good free breakfast, guest kitchen and several resident kitties to cuddle up with. The one small drawback is that mozzies in summer are fairly relentless.
